We see that Jesus is teaching many of his followers many things, but all of it were in parables. A
parable is simply a story from everyday life that is told in order to give a greater, spiritual understanding to some principle that is being explained. Jesus tells a parable of 4 different types of soils that everyone would understand at that time since it was an agrarian society, but Jesus never really tells them what the parable means. And so naturally the disciples ask Jesus why he speaks to the people in parables? And in essence, this is the whole point of not only the parables, but also the Gospel. You see, Jesus’ parables enabled him to reveal truth to his followers while at the same time hiding that same truth from those with hardened and obstinate hearts. Jesus is revealing the blessing it is to not only to understand his parables, but to also be able to have faith because both are gifts from God. It has nothing to do with who we are, how much we know, or how good of a person we think we are. The truth of the matter is that God Himself grants us the ability to receive and to understand—it is truly God’s gift to his children. Do you want to understand God and his will? This is only possible if we have humility seeking after God and yielding our will to His. We must be willing to ask God to reveal himself to us for ultimately true revelation of God and his purposes for our lives comes only from Him. Prayer: Father, God please open the eyes of our hearts and grant us wisdom to receive truth and faith that can only be given by you. Help us to be good soil that is receptive to the work of the Holy Spirit and may we produce 30, 60, and 100-fold for your glory. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
