출애굽기 14장 1-14절

This is the beginning of one of the most well-known stories in the Bible. Chapter 14 divides in the divine instruction for the first 14 verses followed by the divine deliverance.

​At the end of chapter 13, we are told that "The LORD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people."

This is what the people were used to. Sometimes God and the things of God becomes regular, mundane, and just ordinary that we lose the awe and wonder of who God is and his love for us. So what does God do here? He changes the their itinerary on them. God throws a wrench in their plans and expectations to deepen their trust in Him and to completely be surrendered to his will.

Now that they were stuck in between a rock and a hard place, with nowhere to run or hide, all they could do was be still and wait on God to deliver them. But sometimes in the midst of our waiting our prayers can turn into complaints. And this is what happened once again with the Israelites. In a blink of an eye, they forget the redemption from death by the Passover Lamb and, not looking to God, but instead, looking to their circumstances.

In that moment, Moses reminds them and reminds us today that we must remember that God is fighting for us and has given us victory in Jesus. If sin and death has no more power over us, who shall we fear? As Moses says, “We need only be still,” and allow God to be God and fight the battle for us. We have victory in God.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for knowing what is best for us even when we don’t and doubt your purposes and plans for our lives. May we continue to trust in you and put our hope in you even when we can’t see you working in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
